As part of its strategic repositioning, the Abzac Group has chosen to sell off the Le Crouzet cardboard plant in Saint Didier en Velay, which it had acquired in 1991.
As the production of cardboard for tubes has developed extensively since that date, Abzac no longer considers it necessary to integrate the upstream production side.
The Group will now be focusing on its transformation activities, with its priority being the manufacture of cardboard tubes and cores in Europe and North America, along with Kraft drums (fibre drums).
Abzac Group sales, which stood at €85 million in 2008, will not be significantly affected by the sale of the Le Crouzet cardboard plant, as it produced supplies for internal use.
The disposal of the cardboard plant took effect as of 1st September this year. The buyer is Primeasia fibreand Paper PTE Ltd, a subsidiary of family-run company Biltube based in Pune, India.
The Le Crouzet cardboard plant was founded in the mid-17th century and is the oldest paper mill still in activity in France. This change of hands will provide an opportunity for a fresh start, and its new owners plan to modernise and develop it.
At the same time, true to its strategy of proximity and service, Abzac has transferred the cardboard tubes and cores production workshop just a short distance from Le Crouzet to Sainte Sigolène, to continue providing the same service to the local market.
